Usually, in businesses, it often turns out that we involve some snapshots of not our own authorship in the work. And the problem here in that any snapshot is somebody's work, somebody's property and in fact is the object of copyright. Therefore, if it is simple to find on the Internet a suitable picture and to use it in the project, then it is possible to knock up approval from the side of the legal owner.

 Ellis Carter, a non-profit lawyer, explains that simple explanation of copyright law is that if you did not create the image, get a license to use it, or purchase it, you are likely in violation of copyright law. U.S. copyright law will fine you no less than $750 per infringing work and up to $150,000 if the infringement is found to be willful. 

How to use Creative Commons thoughtfully?

1. Identify the license on your chosen image.

2. Note how this work was redistributed.

3. Link back to the origin of the image.

Lecture Presentation Activity

Jeopardy board Credit: Valeria Dibrova The activity I used after the presentation (which can be seen here ) is based on classic TV showed "Jeopardy" where members actually create a question on given answer.
